Instagram, one of the most used social networks in the world, proposes to make a change in its rules of the game that would directly affect the accounts with the most followers.

The photography social network, which today has 800 million active users, is testing its likes counter on the photos that are shared every day on the platform, in this change of rules the most directly affected would be the called influencers, who seek high figures in this statistic.

It is important to clarify that influencers not only live on ‘likes’ or ‘I like you’, but also on their stories, which today are much more effective than publications in the news feed.

For her part, the technological researcher Jane Wong, through her Twitter account, published an image in which she shows that the number of ‘likes’ does not appear, which means that those in charge of Instagram want to generate a change not only in the operation of the platform but also in the mentality of its users.

The release date of the change is still unknown or if it will be permanent, what we do know is that through a statement on its website, Instagram reported: “We want you to focus on what you post, not on how many ‘I like’ ‘gets your post. During this test, only the person sharing the post will see the total number of ‘likes’ on the photo ”.

However, in an interview with the portal ‘The Verge’, an Instagram spokesperson said: “We are not fully testing that at the moment, but exploring other ways to reduce pressure on Instagram is something we are always thinking about” . These changes come as a result of various criticisms of the use that users give to social networks and how these have consequences on mental health, that is, many people put themselves at risk to obtain a photo that generates many ‘likes’ .

In addition, in an interview with the ‘TechCrunch’ portal, an Instagram spokesperson stated that the changes in the platform not only want to take care of the mental health of users, but also preserve the security and privacy of younger users, therefore, A few weeks ago in the United Kingdom a regulation was proposed that seeks to prohibit the ‘like’ button in any of the publications of those under 18 years of age.
