Most of the Colombians surveyed (59%) use their mobile phone to watch videos through YouTube. The second most popular activity is games (48%). They are followed by watching videos shared by messaging services such as WhatsApp (39%). Likewise, those who use maps for navigation (39%) and listen to streaming music (37%), surpassed those who prefer their device to watch movies (35%) and check the news (35%).
Most recurring activities:
Consultation of social networks (57%)
Taking pictures (56%)
Games (48%)
The publication of photos on social networks was the activity with the greatest increase in the last year, since it went from 39% in 2017 to 46% in 2018. On the other hand, voice calls are less and less frequent. These continue to be displaced by messaging through social networks and WhatsApp.
Cell phone renewal
last four years. While, in 2015, 47% of those consulted said that they renewed their cell phone in the last year, in 2018 only 37% did. In this sense, the majority of consumers purchased their device in the last two years (72%). Although the store continues to be the main channel for purchasing cell phones (56%), there is a significant decrease compared to previous year (10%), in part, due to the increase in the participation of retail stores (7%) and manufacturers’ stores (3%). Online (11%) and telephone (6%) purchases continue to have low percentages.
Internet access via mobile phone
Almost half of subscribers (45%) are satisfied with the data plan they have to access the Internet. This level of satisfaction increased significantly (12%) compared to 2017 (33%) and a sustained increase is expected. Some of the reasons for this phenomenon are greater 4G coverage and a better offer of plans from the operators.
Carefree about security issues
Another of the outstanding findings of the Consumer Mobile Survey in Colombia is that more than half of the consumers consulted are unconcerned about the use that the companies with whom they share information give their personal data. Only 41% express concern with how companies use data and 18% do not know what personal information they are sharing.
In addition, 11% of those consulted think that they have never shared information, which shows a lack of awareness about the importance of restricting the data that is shared online. Although 75% of those surveyed use WhatsApp, less than half (29%) accept that they have shared their phone number; Furthermore, 61% admit that they use Facebook, but only 37% are aware that they have shared their name.
The voice of mobiles
technological devices of the device are known or used. A case study was the use of voice assistants, such as Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, Google’s Assistant, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Samsung’s Bixby.
The majority of those consulted stated that the voice assistants integrated into their devices are inactive. At least 38% said they have never used a voice assistant. The biggest uses of these tools, according to consumers, are to: call a person on their contact list (20%), search for general information (20%) and listen to music (19%).
